Take the Pledge to Keep Campus Safe

Heads Up Cougs Pedestrian Safety Awareness Campaign

HEADS UP COUGS!

In October 2019, the Heads Up Cougs Pedestrian Safety Awareness Campaign was launched. The goal of this campaign is to bring awareness to (around) safety on campus for pedestrians and drivers. We sometimes all need a reminder to pay attention while crossing streets or driving in pedestrian heavy traffic. 24 pedestrian safety awareness pavement graphics were put down at 12 crosswalks around campus. There are different messages on these bright green pavement graphics that should bring attention to pedestrians, including “Eyes Up, Phones Down”, “See and Be Seen”, and “Look Both Ways”.

WSU Transportation Services is spreading the word about pedestrian safety awareness through tabling events, social media, and digital signage around campus to encourage and increase conversations which raise awareness of safety on Washington State University’s Pullman campus.

Take the Pedestrian Safety Awareness Pledge! Whether you are driving, riding, or walking, pledge to keep yourself and others safe.

  • I will cross the street only at marked crosswalks and intersections.
  • I will make eye contact with drivers to confirm I am seen before crossing the street.

WHEN I BIKE…

  • I will always wear a helmet.
  • I will NOT be a distracted cyclist.
  • I will use bike lanes when available, & ride with traffic when bike lanes are not available.

New parking app at WSU Pullman means no more need for quarters

September 9, 2019

PULLMAN, Wash. — A stellar parking spot is no longer out of reach on the WSU Pullman campus for those without quarters or time to run to a parking kiosk.
WSU Pullman Transportation Services has teamed up with an app called WayToPark, allowing visitors to pay for parking remotely. Users also can set up text reminders to alert them when their time is almost up and give them the ability to extend it from their phones.
“WayToPark provides a convenient and straight-forward way to find parking,” said Chris Boyan, associate director of WSU Transportation Services. “Of particular benefit, we think, is the ability to extend meters from phones rather than having to leave classes, meetings or other university events.”
WayToPark can be downloaded through either the Google Play or Apple store. After completing the registration process, users can indicate a parking zone, choose a duration and confirm their payment.
Users can pay for parking through WayToPark at several campus locations: Terrell Library Garage, Smith Center Garage, Green 5 South Beasley Lot, Yellow 1 Indoor Practice Facility Lot, Red 5 Tennis Courts Lot and the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center Lot.
As with WSU Pullman’s annual and daily parking permits, physical permits do not need to be displayed inside a vehicle, according to WSU Pullman Transportation Services. That’s because a License Plate Recognition system is used to read plates as the permit.
Upon launching at WSU Pullman, WayToPark is now available in 15 states across the country. To learn more, visit WayToPark.com.

Cougar Way Football Closure

Cougar Way Will Be Closed For Home Football Games

WSU officials have established a temporary “restricted traffic zone” on a section of Cougar Way from D St. to Stadium Way during home football games 3 hours pre-game for approximately 2 hours. Vehicular access to this section of Cougar Way will be restricted to emergency vehicles, transit vehicles, stadium support vehicles and vehicles displaying disability permits for the purpose of dropping off persons with disabilities. The restricted traffic zone is being established for the following reasons:

  • Improve pedestrian safety and access for the large volume of fans crossing Cougar Way to access pre-game activities.
  • Improve safety for athletes and game officials.
  • Create an opportunity to improve perimeter control and security of Martin Stadium and related Athletic facilities.

Except for the Library parking garage, there will be no access to or from permit parking lots within the closure. If you have a Crimson 4 parking permit and will need access to your car during the closure, you may move your car prior to the closure and park in the Gray 1 lot east of Beasley Coliseum. WSU vehicles with an operational necessity to access the closure will be granted access on a case by case basis (please access the closure through the end of the closure closest to your destination).
